Encouraging the experience of healthy female maturity

Abstract

Introduction: The climacteric and menopause, present in female maturity, are periods of great transformations that deserve full attention in society. Despite the relevance of these stages in the experiences of many women, they are not always debated and elucidated in the social sphere, since the climacteric is plagued by many clashes endowed with taboos and stigmas. Objective: To describe the experiences and health education actions promoted by Nursing, Physiotherapy, Medicine and Psychology students when conducting conversation circles for mature women in a public educational institution located in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Experience Report: Descriptive study, framed in an experience report, of an extension project developed in a public educational institution aimed at social actions for the population of the region in social vulnerability, in Belo Horizonte. The participants of the project were 24 women aged 51 to 82 years. The actions carried out included conversation circles and activity workshops, whose themes addressed sexuality, nutritional therapy, physical and mental health, pelvic physiotherapy and cancer prevention. In all, there were 13 extension actions, in which the members were involved and captivated by the proposed activities. Throughout the project, the themes addressed were developed based on the demand of the women contemplated and on the observation of the extension workers in the face of the evolution of the participants. Final Considerations: The promotion of physical and mental health education actions are an important means of transformation and empowerment for women in maturity in vulnerable regions.
