Educational actions to raise awareness about Dengue carried out in a health center and Municipal Early Childhood Education School in the West Zone of Belo Horizonte

Abstract

Introduction: Public Health Practice is a discipline that aims to provide transversal training for Medicine students and promote social responsibility, with the insertion of these students in geographic and sociocultural contexts that allow them to understand the fundamental role of the Unified System of Health (SUS) in promoting the health and well-being of the community. This approach is even more crucial given the alarming data released about Dengue by the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Objective: Adopt response measures to the Dengue epidemic in Belo Horizonte, highlighting its contributions to disease control and population safety. Experience report: In the first semester of 2024, under the guidance of a teacher and given the current context, 7 medical students prepared two actions related to dengue: the first in the waiting room of the health center, in which they held a circle of conversation addressing the symptoms, treatment and prevention of the disease and the second was held at the Municipal School of Early Childhood Education (EMEI), located close to the UBS, aiming to introduce children to the life cycle of the Aedes Aegypti vector. Final considerations: The educational actions of extensionists, developed in the Public Health Practices I discipline, were fundamental in allowing academics to acquire skills by learning to adapt the medical language and, therefore, be able to transmit information about Dengue in an accessible way to the local community.
