The use of conversation dynamics with teenagers to build up hygiene habits

Introduction: The discovery of one's own body and the changes during the teenage years have a huge impact on the consolidation of that individual's identity and on the way they see themselves in the groups they belong to. Therefore, it is important to raise awareness over habits that improve someone's health and the way they are perceived by other people. Objective: Report the experience of medical students when promoting conversation dynamics were used in an interactive way of bringing up themes such as health and personal hygiene with 9th grade students of a public state school. Experience report: The intervention happened during the second semester of 2023 as a part of a curricular subject called Public Health I, and had as a target teenagers from 14 to 17 years old from 9th grade. There were group conversation dynamics with images, texts and flyers with information that illustrated the message that was verbally being passed by the medical students to the teenagers. There was also a final dynamic that involved answering anonymous questions that were collected previously. Conclusion: It was remarkable how involved the teenagers were during the event. In a relaxed environment, the dynamic worked as a safe way of answering questions and putting down worries about their own bodies and the way it interacts with others. The dynamic was a valuable tool, since a lot of relevant topics came up along with it. The use of images while talking about hygiene improved the knowledge about the human body, promoting the share of scientific knowledge. Besides that, being in close contact with teenagers taught the medical students more about the public's necessities.
