Introduction: Cardiac and pulmonary auscultation is an essential skill in pediatric physical examination, playing a crucial role in the early detection of clinical conditions and in the differential diagnosis between pathological alterations and innocent murmurs. However, academics face significant challenges in the transition from theory to practice, due to gaps in training and practical difficulties inherent in pediatric examination, such as child behavior and anatomical limitations. Objective: To report the experience of medical students in pediatric auscultation training. Experience report: This report describes the experience of medical students in educational activities on pediatric auscultation carried out in the second semester of 2024, which included the use of simulation manikins, with reproduction of cardiac and pulmonary sounds, allowing students to recognize normal and pathological characteristics in a controlled environment. After laboratory practice, students applied their knowledge in the pediatric outpatient clinic. Final considerations: The gap between theory and practice is an obstacle to be overcome by students during pediatric education. The challenges of patient management and building trust with families are part of child care and constitute an aspect that cannot be simulated during theoretical classes or skills training. Therefore, medical education must include constant practice in order to bring students closer to reality and prepare more competent and confident professionals.
